Carthage became part of the city of Cincinnati, OH in 1911, at the most northern end of the city. It has seen drastic changes over the last decade, once a booming industrial area, its central business district had decline, city and government funding was not delivered to the area which led to poverty and crime, since the last 5 years it has taken in more Hispanics than any neighborhood, because of it's central location to highways, and it's faith base centers, of wordship. The neighborhood business was recharged when a local business developer decided to invest in this neighborhood purchasing an abandoned Masonic lodge, repurposed the property as a multi-business location, got involved in the neighborhood Civic League, and volunteered to startup the business association and bring Carthage into the (NBD) Neighborhood Business District group with the city of Cincinnati, OH. Carthage had pockets of business life brewing a vibrant Hispanic business culture, and sprinkles of small businesses making a living, but no central plan for the business district, Led by Ronald Williams and the Civic League, we reached out to several planning organizations we decided to go with (CBI) Community Building Institute at Xavier University to get the ball rolling on a market study. Ronald Williams worked closely with CBI and the Civic League to bring the market study to life and after only a few months the area was awarded a grant from the city of Cincinnati, for the market study, which is one of the guides for our first stage plan for the Business District.
